John Lewis Oxford Street Facade

"The refurbishment of the Oxford Street John Lewis has transformed the experience on the street for shoppers and significantly improved the clarity of the signage and shopfront displays by relatively simple means. It demonstrates how quite subtle moves can be very effective" - Dixon Jones Architects observation

This project sympathetically restored and cleverly enhanced the key facades and street scene of the John Lewis department store facing Oxford Street and returns to Holles and Old Cavendish Streets.  The work included:

  • launch of the new John Lewis & Partners brand identity
  • taking back the canopy to its original proportions with new glass back-lit halo design and dimpled mirrored soffit
  • stripping back circa 60 years of air borne pollution to the elevations and refurbishing the facade Portland stone, coloured tiling and key vertical features.
  • refurbished and repainted windows (in a shade of grey) including tinting of the glass to provide a uniform appearance across the facade
  • new architectural lighting
  • new shop window interiors
  • opening of a 5th floor balcony on the Oxford Street/Old Cavendish Street corner to provide outside dining space with views along Oxford St.
